Voter Registration in Gates County, North Carolina
You may register to vote in Gates County if you are:

A citizen of the United States

A person 18 years of age or older

A person 17 years of age who will be 18 by the date of the general election

A legal resident of Gates County
Gates County has a permanent registration system. You need to register only if you:

Have moved within Gates County since you registered

Have had your Gates County registration cancelled because you registered in another county or state

Have had your Gate County registration cancelled because you were convicted of a felony and your citizen rights have now been restored
You need to update your registration if you:

Have moved within Gates County since you registered

Have changed your name

Wish to change your party affiliation
A voter registration card will be mailed to you once your registration application or update form has been processed. Keep the card. It tells youthe location of your voting place and the districts in which you reside. You may use the card to change your address if you move within Gates County or to change your name and party affiliation. If you move out of Gates County, you may use the card to cancel your registration.
Party Affiliation
You may register with any political party recognized in the State of North Carolina. Party affiliation determines the primary in which a voter is eligible to vote. You may also register as unaffiliated. If you do not declare a party, you will be registered as unaffiliated. During a partisan primary election, an unaffiliated voter may only vote is a party authorized unaffiliated to vote in the primary.
Registration Deadline
If mailed, the registration form must be postmarked at least 25 days prior to the election.
If hand delivered, the registration form must be received at the Board of Elections office no later than 5:00pm on the 25th day prior to the election.
