Position Objectives:

Job Description:

Performs administrative work in the areas of Voter Registration, List Maintenance, Petition Filing and Research, Customer Service, Statutory Compliance Mailings, and general office support. This position works under the supervision of the Director of Elections.

 

Position Responsibilities:

Departmental hours of operation are 8:30am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Mandatory Overtime to include weekend, holiday and evening hours is REQUIRED during active Election Cycles or other times of high need.

Other Duties Include (but are not limited to…)

·       Entering data from voter registration forms into a computer system

·       Review previously entered voter registrations for accuracy

·       Remove individual voter records and attach documentation

·       Assists in local and state candidate filing, collects filing fees and notarizes documents

·       Perform daily mail operations

·       Answering phone calls relating to the voting process

·       Direct calls to appropriate staff members

·       Adhere to security policies regarding confidential voter information

·       Possesses strong organizational skills

·       Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

·       General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; general knowledge of Federal, State and municipal voter registration laws and regulations

·       General knowledge of voting procedures, maintenance and protection of voting registration lists and records

·       Ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility

·       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public

·       Ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to follow oral and written directions

 

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:

·       High School Diploma or GED. One year of experience in data entry and/or customer service is preferred

·       Election experience is preferred

 

Special Requirements:

·       Must be Registered Voter or become registered upon hire

·       Must have a valid North Carolina Driver’s License

·       Possess NC Notary Public Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire

·       Ability to travel to State Board of Elections Conferences, and other conferences as needed/required

·       This position is subject to a background check, which could include, but is not limited to, criminal history (employment-related and/or SBI fingerprint-based)
